Simple ways to get rid of your Phobia
When your brain sets up the phobia initially, it will set up a series of pictures, sounds, movies or some form of physical reaction that goes on every time your fear is triggered. It plays like a CD, the same way every time.
If you were to take out that CD and scratch it with deep grooves and scratches, what do you think would happen?
NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) does just that, it scratches the pattern to ensure that the feeling associated with the old fear never plays the same again.
Here is an example for you to try
Think of something that you find scary (for this example it is better as a thing like a spider for instance)
Rate your fear level on a scale of 1 to 10 (where 1 is not scared at all, 10 is REALLY scared)
Now as you think about that thing, do you have a picture?
If the answer is no, can you remember a time when you were scared? Get a picture.
Drain all of the colour out of the picture
Turn the whole picture upside down
Give everything in the picture a silly hat and a pair of rollerskates and see everything wearing them
Now give the thing you are scared of a silly voice (for example very high and squeaky or low and slow)
See the thing you are scared of moving about on their roller skates (remember they are not good skaters)
Give it a nice name (male or female)
Play your fear forward, in black and white at 5 times the speed
Play it backwards at double the speed
Play it forwards at double speed and this time blank out the sound and play a song you like instead
Play it backwards (and have you shouting YeeeeeHar at the end when you havent got the phobia anymore)
Repeat these steps at least 3 times
On the same scale of 1 - 10, where is your phobia now?
Most people will find that the figure goes down at least a bit (and sometimes a lot)
Now, If you were to practice that several times a day, for, say a week, making it more outlandish and funnier every time,
do you still think you would be scared as much as you were before you started?
